How Android Auto Works

Android Auto allows you to access the most commonly used features of your Android device on your vehicle’s touchscreen receiver. By using familiar icons, a simple interface and the use of the “OK Google” voice commands, Android Auto allows you to keep your eyes on the road, giving you a smarter, safer, and more connected driving experience.

2 Ways to Use to Android Auto

  • Stand Alone: Download and install Android Auto. Place phone in your phone mount. Launch Android Auto and you are on your way.

 

  • Download and install Android Auto and connect to your Android Auto Compatible Receiver

2 Ways to Connect with Android Auto

  • Wireless Connection: Once the initial setup of your Bluetooth connection has been established, you will no longer have to remove your device from your pocket, backpack or purse to connect with your car’s stereo, allowing you to navigate your smartphone by using the receiver’s touchscreen or Google Voice commands.

 

  • USB Connection: Simply connect your smartphone to your car stereo with a USB cable. Not only will you have the same control as you would have if your were connected wirelessly, but the added benefit of charging your phone.

How Android Auto Works

Android Auto allows you to access features of your Android device by using familiar icons, a simple interface and the use of the “OK Google” voice commands.

Google Maps

Accessing Google Maps through Android Auto lets you take full advantage of all of the great features that you are already familiar with, only in this mode you are accessing them via voice commands through your vehicle’s receiver. By using the “Ok Google” command you can have Google Maps plot a course to your next destination, let you know what great restaurants are nearby, or even tell you how far you are from the nearest gas station, all with the sound of your voice. Hands free driving has never been so simple.

Phone Assistant

The same way that you currently make calls through your Android device can also be done without having to access your smartphone. Simply say “Ok Google Call” and say the name of the contact you would like to call, and Google Assistant will take care of the rest. No more fumbling with your phone or scrolling through your contacts, and it’s all done without taking your hands off the wheel.

SMS Assistant

Android Auto lets you take control of your messaging by simply accessing your messages through Google Assistant. Send texts by saying “Ok Google Text” and then the name of the recipient followed by your message. Google Assistant will then ask if you would like to send the text, reply “Send Text” and the message is sent. You can also have Google Assistant read aloud your last 5 SMS messages. All of this is accomplished without having to take your eyes off the road, letting you keep your attention where it belongs.

Google Assistant

With the use of Google Assistant within the Android Auto platform, you can take charge of your day even when you are on the go. Whether you are checking in on your day’s appointments or scheduling a meeting for next week Google Assistant lets you stay on top of your day. In addition, you can interface with your smart home devices, turn up the thermostat, or turn on your home lights with a simple voice command.

Music

With Android Auto you have control of your favorite music apps such as iHeartRadio, Pandora, or Spotify. Find the perfect mix for your road trip, or that song that gets you through your daily commute. All of this can be done with the sound of your voice, letting you give your full attention to your driving.

Use Your Favorite Apps

In addition to features like Google Maps, Messaging, Phone Calls and Google Play Music, Android Auto offers a broad range of 3rd Party apps. Do you prefer Waze to Google Maps? Just download it from the Google Play store. Do you prefer Hangouts, WhatsApp, Skype or Spotify to the native phone call, messaging or music applications? Great! Android Auto is an excellent option for people who prefer a larger variety of applications.

How to Get Android Auto in Your Vehicle
